When I write up the visit in more detail (still figuring out how I'm going to do it), I'll cover quite a bit from my conversation with Bob Philion. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go put this new XXXX flex shaft into my 7.5° Tour Issue head. You can't fault an entire industry too much for adapting to the misguided demands of the consumer. It's the same reason why OEM "made for" shafts tend to play soft to flex.

Manufacturers know that to sell clubs their drivers have to perform, and an element of that is creating clubs that offer a better fit for the majority consumer.even if that better fit is achieved by giving more loft to those guys buying 9.5 heads when they shouldn't be (understating lofts). The numbers suggest the majority of golfers need more loft, and yet, year after year, 9 and 9.5° heads outsell everything else. Everybody thinks they hit it farther and higher than they actually do. Basically, golfers are stupid, or at least arrogant. I can't say every OEM does it, but the majority certainly do.because they have to compete with others doing the same thing. It's almost common knowledge at this point. What is this about driver lofts not being as marked?! And this is typical throughout the industry? I'd love to see some data on this. Nobody is saying much about Long Tom.ĭid I miss anything? Got specific ease let me know.

Because SKUs are based on color (not loft), and because shafts are interchangeable, pro shops won't need to stock any additional inventory beyond what the stock in the AMP, for example. There are at least 3 of us asking for it.and we have our reasons. The plan as stated today is for the pro to be available in Silver and Orange, however based on my conversations with the team, as well as the input from others who attended the open house, Red and Blue are probably going to happen. #Cobra amp cell driver pink upgrade

Cobra understands their stock shaft offerings are limited right now. I'd expect price to be competitive with tips from Callaway and TaylorMade. I'm told you'll have to buy quantity, and they won't be cheap, but my guess is pro shops and eBay sellers alike will sell them individually. Fade bias setting in the Pro model is accomplished by flattening the lie angle. The draw setting in the standard model works by making the lie angle more upright. This is due not to the loft being true, but also to the differences in the placement of the center of gravity. Loft to loft the pro model will launch lower and spin less than the standard model. Cobra admits that, like everyone else in the industry, actual loft is often higher than stated, and that remains the case with the standard AMP Cell driver. The Pro Model will play true to loft (9 degrees is actually 9 degrees). Cobra feels last years AMP may have cost them some better players (spin), the new Pro model will launch lower and spin less that last year's AMP, and this year's standard AMP Cell. The CG properties (which ultimately influence ball flight) of the AMP Cell Pro are based on the ZL Encore. While out in Carlsbad I also learned a few things about the new drivers that didn't make it into the press release: The notables up there are the KuroKage shaft, the short length (-.5" over the standard model), smaller head, and differences in loft setting (lower loft, fade setting as opposed to draw in in the standard). It features a MRC Kurokage shaft (65g and 45.25†length) and has a 440cc head. 
The COBRA AMP CELL Pro Driver (MAP $399) is available in both right and left handed models with My Fly technology which allows any driver you purchase to be adjusted from 7.5° to 10.5° loft settings, including 8.5° and 9.5° fade settings.
